Important Geological Localities of the Czech Republic
The database stores records of sites in the Czech Republic which document examples of many very diverse geological phenomena, significant occurrences of rocks, minerals and fossils. These include localities within specially protected areas at various levels of conservation, as well as scientifically significant, interesting or documentary sites, ranging from those of transnational importance down to the regional level. The database is the result of a long-term project of the Czech Geological Survey, developing the original idea and former paper card index established in the early 1990s by Mgr. Vladimír Lysenko (CGS) and Professor Ivo Chlupáč (Faculty of Science, Charles University). Records in the database are continuously added and updated in cooperation with many experts from the Czech Geological Survey, the Faculty of Science of Charles University, the Czech Academy of Sciences, museums and other institutions. The professional accuracy within their area of responsibility is guaranteed by the individual regional geologists of the CGS.
