Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Active quarry exposing an amphibolite belt surrounded by biotitic paragneisses. These metamorphites belong to the Strážec Moldanubicum. Pegmatite and calcite veins with some ore minerals. Mineralogically very interesting locality. More than 37 minerals were found there, some of them of primary origin, and resemble so called Alpine paragenesis. Also a skarn, formed during contact metamorphosis from limestones and dolomites, occurs there. This locality is recommended for protection.
