Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Large abandoned quarry exposing light grey Vilémovice Limestone (Macocha Formation, Lower Frasnian). Limestones contain recrystallized faunal remains of corals and stromatoporoid colonies and stromatactis structures. These limestones are supposed to represent a core of the true bioherm. Stratigraphically and sedimentologically significant locality. The site includes paleokarst phenomena of Palaeozoic and Mesozoic ages hydrothermal calcite vein, karst abys and terra rossa. This locality represents a part of the Protected Landscape Arrea Moravský kras - the Moravian Karst.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif > Moravosilesian region > Moravosilesian Palaeozoicum > Pre-flash Units > Moravian karst
Stratigraphy: Tournaisian (Lower Mississippian), Cenomanian
Subject: stratigraphy, sedimentology, paleontology, lithology, mineralogy, structural geology, mining and mining impacts
Geological phenomenon: krast pit, vein, abyss, fosil soil, deformation fabrics, unconformity, karst, karren, fossils fauna
Genesis: sedimentary, anthropogenic (anthropogenic activity), chemogenetic, hydrothermal mineralization, weathering
Rock: clayey shale, limestone, greywacke, siltstone, sand

Territorial protection
