Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
A small rock, about 5 m high, with a chapel at the top on the northern edge of the village of Straník, shows typical pillow lava documenting Lower Cretaceous submarine volcanism. The pillow lavas are part of the Hradiště Formation (Silesian Unit of the Carpathian flysch belt). Volcanic rock is classified as pyroxenic monchiquite. It is a dark fine-grained rock with porphyroblasts of amphibole, pyroxene and rarely biotite. Variolitic structure can be seen in places. The periphery of pillows shows amygdaloidal texture. The site is protected since 1997 as a natural monument "Pillow lava in Stranik".
