Geology

Short characteristics of the site: The springs of Mariánské Lázně represent a hydrochemically exceptionally diverse system linked to a complex geological structure and tectonic lines. Its northern representative is the Forest Spring (Lesní pramen), notable for its hybrid alkaline-saline composition influenced by a diorite body. Occupying a central position is the Cross Spring (Křížový pramen), historically the most significant source of strongly mineralized water of the so-called 'Carlsbad type' (Na-SO4-Cl), used primarily for drinking cures. In its vicinity, though chemically distinct, emerges Caroline's Spring (Karolinin pramen), used today primarily for baths, while the nearby Ambrose’s Springs (Ambrožovy prameny) are characterized by a high iron content. Finally, Mary’s Springs (Mariiny prameny) form a specific group within the Centrální Lázně complex.
