Short characteristics of the site:
The geological structure of the wider surroundings of Il Sano is complicated by several branches of the Mariánské Lázně fault. The Il Sano spring group, situated about 400 meters NE of Dolní Kramolín in the valley of the Kosový Creek (Kosový potok), is the hydrogeological heart of the area.The Il Sano spring was declared medicinal as early as 1896 and was originally tapped within the building of the former bottling plant in a massive circular well, 5 meters deep and 2 meters in diameter. Consequently, in 1991, the HJ-1 borehole was drilled to a depth of 35 m, replacing the original catchment of this spring.
An ambitious exploration followed in 1996, aiming to find an additional source of mineral water. Two new catchment boreholes, HV-2 and HV-3, were proposed. Acidulous water of the usual composition was not found; instead, both boreholes intercepted mineral water with unusually high mineralization of 4.0 g/l and 3.5 g/l.
