Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Lázně Kynžvart is situated on the granite of the Žandov granite massif. A key role in the formation of the local mineral waters is played by the course of faults within the Mariánské Lázně Fault Zone and their intersection with a slightly oblique fault system trending WSW–ENE, which follows the deeply incised valleys. Compared to Mariánské Lázně or Karlovy Vary, the mineralization of the local acidulous waters is generally lower, which allows for their long-term consumption. In Lázně Kynžvart and the surrounding area, the Ca-Mg-HCO3 type predominates, often with elevated iron content. The spa center is concentrated around the group of Viktor and Helena springs west of the Orlík spa house, the Marie spring south of Orlík, and the separately emerging Richard spring. Hydrogeological exploration confirmed the existence of two main structures with distinct water chemistries in the spa center. The deeper boreholes, Viktor, Helena, and Marie, tap into water with higher mineralization, while Richard taps into water with lower mineralization.
