Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
The site is part of the wider system of the Bohemian Quartz Ridge, a significant tectonic line in western Bohemia. This structure, formed by resistant vein quartz, stands out in the terrain as a distinctive ridge or "ridge" because it resists weathering better than the surrounding rocks. The quartz ridge forms a distinctive "rock knot" at the site, probably a relic of quartz vein mining. The ridge was formed by intensive silicification of crushed rocks along a deep fault (Mariánská Lázeň fault system), probably in the Tertiary period. The site lies on the border of the Slavkovský les and the Český les, and there are, among other things, mineral springs in the vicinity (especially the village of Salajna). The rock knot itself is formed by quartz vein with several generations of quartz, in places with small crystals in cavities. Fragments of coarse-grained muscovite-biotite granite of the Ore Mountains pluton, with pinkish potassium feldspars, can be found in the vicinity.
