Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
A rock formation formed by loosely clustered boulders of porphyry granite of the Ore Mountains pluton, of various sizes (in the order of meters). The boulders, originally sharp-edged, formed by cracking of granite along a network of cracks, are rounded due to chemical weathering in a warm and humid climate at the end of the Paleogene. In some places, pseudo-scrapes (grooves, grooves or notches on the surface of the rock, formed by the action of rainwater and weathering) can be observed. Unlike the scratches that occur in limestone or dolomite, pseudo-scrapes occur in non-calcareous rocks, e.g. in granite or amphibolites. There is also a rock bowl on one of the boulders. Rock bowls are oval or bowl-shaped depressions on horizontal or slightly inclined rock surfaces that are formed by natural processes of weathering and erosion. Nearby (about 200 m southeast) is the Kynžvartský kámen natural monument (ID 2356).
