Short characteristics of the site:
In Pobřežní Street, several small outcrops reveal the contact between biotite gneiss of the Chvaletice Group and amphibole to amphibole–biotite gabbro. The boundary is locally well exposed and in places accentuated by smooth, naturally polished surfaces. The gabbro is a dark, medium-grained igneous rock with occasional lighter quartz-rich patches, interpreted as partial melts formed during interaction with surrounding metamorphosed sedimentary rocks. Near the contact, the adjacent biotite gneiss has been thermally altered into contact hornfels. The site is part of the Týnec educational trail and represents a notable example of magmatic–metamorphic interaction.
