Short characteristics of the site:
An abandoned small quarry on the western side of the Straník – Kojetín road exposes a sill of olivine basalt of the teschenite association of rocks, surrounded by Lower Cretaceous claystones of the Hradiště Formation (Silesian Unit of the Carpathian Flysch Belt). Medium-grained basalt with an ophitic structure contains lath-shaped plagioclase, needle-like amphiboles and the ground mass composed of carbonates, chlorites and minerals of the serpentine group. The contact between the basalt and claystones consists of gray platy tuffite or contact-hornfels. The dark gray claystones of the Hradiště Formation contain abundant foraminifers of the upper Hauterivian: Falsogaudryinella tealbyensis (Bart.), Protomarssonella hechti (D. et M.), Recurvoidella vocontiana (Moull.), Gavelinella sp. Finds of ammonites ?Partschiceras infundibulum (Orb.) and ?Hemibaculites sp. indicate the lower Barremian age.
