Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
The defile of rock outcrops along the cycle path from Horní Újezd to Šebkovice near the bridge over Rokytná is formed by predominant calc-silicate rocks - erlans. In these rocks, it is possible to observe layers, intercalations and lenses of paragneises, crystalline limestones and dolomites and granitoid rocks. An interesting feature of the erlans is the characteristic selective banded weathering, which accentuates the locally well-defined folding in the rock. Historical mining of limestones has taken place at the site, documented by old mining pits at the top of Mlýnský kopec. An old prospecting adit can also be found at the northernmost edge of the defile. This would have been used for the mining of either graphite (according to local sources of information) or limonite (as suggested by the distinct limonitisation of the erlan by the adit).
