Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
About 1300 m south of the center of Čestice, sedge mud has been preserved in the valley of the Čestický brook. The area can be reached on foot along the green tourist sign from the north of Čestice, about 100 m from the village Na Kobylce turn onto a forest path leading down the slope along the forest, the path leads to the southern promontory of the estate. The vegetation cover of the bog consists of heavily waterlogged meadows, in the spring with a dense growth of marsh buttercup, in some places the bog is overgrown with deciduous trees. The total length of the peat body is 700 m, while the peat in this length at a width of 40–70 m fills almost the entire floodplain of the Čestický brook. In some places the stream was cut into the bog in small waterfalls to a depth of about 100 cm, so there are nice profiles. Under the vegetation cover with turf, there is a peat in the thickness of 30–100 cm, which is black-brown, soft, in some places there are rotten roots. Beneath the bog is a smelly gray-green greasy clay, the thickness of which has not been verified. In places, sediment flushes with a predominance of an sandy component with detritus of rocks, mainly light migmatite from sand size to fragments up to several cm, are inserted from the sides. Flush sediments irregularly push clean peat or with it form a mixed muddy-sandy sediment rich in organic matter. The peat is best developed at the outlets of small valleys with leaching cones of flushing sediments, which subsidize the peat bog with water on the side. At the bottom of the stream, which is secondarily cut into the bog and clay, there are secondary sediments of sand sediments and stones up to 15 cm large, mainly light paragneiss to migmatite, which outcrops all around. The width of this secondary "floodplain" ranges from 0.5 to 1.5 m.
