Geology

Short characteristics of the site: The Tajga peat bog is the largest of the Kladská raised bogs, covering roughly 3 km2 at an elevation of 800–835 m and bordering the Kladská pond. It is fed by waters from the surrounding mountain ridge and local springs, with pH ranging from 4.2 to 6.6 and low conductivity, while outflow waters become more acidic due to leaching of humic acids. Historically, the bog was heavily drained, but recent restoration measures have helped to slow water loss and improve its hydrological stability. Water from the bog partly drains into the Kladská pond and further through the Dlouhá stoka system, historically used in tin mines in Horní Slavkov. The Husí les peat bog, located north of Tajga at 800–810 m, is much smaller (0.15 km²) and lies between the Pramenský stream and the Dlouhá stoka. Its drainage is divided between these two systems, with measured pH around 5.7 and moderate conductivity. Unlike Tajga, no significant humic substances were detected in its outflow, and the bog can seasonally dry out, sometimes lacking surface runoff during summer periods.
