Short characteristics of the site:
This locality presents itself as flooded pit where kaolin was formerly exploited. This kaolin has been formed by kaolinization of Proterozoic granodiorite of the Dyje (Thaya) Massif. Potassium feldspar suffered kaolinization during periods of wet and warm climate. Pure kaolin was formed by kaolinization of leucitic granites. The age of kaolinization proces is not yet solved. It is supposed that intensive weathering started sometimes during Triassic, but the most intensive kaolinization took place during Neogene. The locality belongs to southern part of the Carpathian Foredeep.
