Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
The early silver mining district, called Hory Matky Boží (Holy Mother Mts.), situated in the South Bohemian and Šumava Mts. Moldanubicum. The silver bearing vein is about 1000 metres long and was exploited between the 14th and 16th centuries. Mentioned vein cuts surrounding migmatite with cordierite and adjoining body of biotite granodiorite. Numerous pits and ore dumps occur in the area. Such dumps offer even larger blocks of biotite migmatite with milky quartz, pyrite and secondary minerals. An educational trail leads visitors through this area and in the nearby settlement mining museum has been installed.
