Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
This locality is represented by one of the most popular and legendary hill called "Říp". This hill can be compared with an inselberg placed on the Bohemian Cretaceous basin. The hill Říp is a relic magmatic channelway which emplaced lava into the Cretaceous sediments. Later, intensive erosion removed surrounding Ceretaceous sediments. Now the summit of volcanic Říp hill overlooks its surrounding from two hundred metres height. There are numerous outcropso on the hill slopes, including frost features and block fields. The rock itself is described as sodalite nephelinite.
