Geology

Short characteristics of the site: This locality represents an active sandpit where the tectonic contact between Upper Cretaceous sediments with the Brno graniodiorite crops out. The biotite granodiorite with porphyry dykes was faulted over Cretaceous sediments. The sequence of Cretaceous sediments starts with the Peruc-Korycany Formation, the thickness of which is 125 metres (this is really a record thickness for the whole Bohemian Massif). The sediments of this formation consist of sandstones, silstones and spiculites. In the overlying sediments of the Bílá Hora Formation also glauconitic sandstones occur. This formation is present only as a relic.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif > Cretaceous of the Bohemian Massif > Bohemian Cretaceous Basin > Bohemian Cretaceous Basin
Stratigraphy: Cenomanian, Turonian
Subject: sedimentology, structural geology, stratigraphy
Geological phenomenon: lithological boundary, table mountain, fault, bedding
Genesis: sedimentary, tectonic
Rock: sandstone, siltstone, opuka (aranaceous marlstone), granodiorite

Territorial protection

Level of protection: Registered interesting geological localities
Conflicts of interests: reclamation, open cast mining
