Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
The old abandoned shelf quarry, almost overgrown, exposes limestones of the Macocha Formation (Frasnian). The alternation of bioclastic and biomicritic limestones is typical for this outcrop. Also laminated calcareous siltstones form some interlayers in this section. The limestones are fossiliferous, algae, sponge spicuiles, conodonts, ostracods, some trilobites etc. were found. The forereef depositional environment and activity of calciturbidites are supposed to prevail during limestone sedimentation. The locality belongs to the Moravian Palaeozoic.
