Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
This locality is represented by rocky outcrop overlooking the Krounka River valley. The rocky cliffs expose Cretaceous sediments of Cenomanian and Lower Turonian ages. They overlay a base made of the Rychmburk greywackes. They are probably of the Palaeozoic age (possibly of Lower Carboniferous - Culm). The oldest Cretaceous sediments are of the Cenomanian age and consist of quartzose sandstones and bituminous sandstone with flora of the freshwater Cenomanian. This section continues with overlying disintegrated sandstones and younger beds of solid quartzose sandstone. This sequence is unique and allows to reconstruct the evolution of oldest swedimentary enviroments in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin.This locality belongs to the National Geopark "Železné hory - the Iron Mountains ".
