Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Moldanubicum, Šumava Mts. Series of small outcrops exposing medium- up to coarse-grained mica schists with garnet, staurolite, andalusite and cordierite. Andalusite forms phenocrysts as large as 10 cm. Garnet grains often weather out and accumulate in a regolith or nearby fluvial deposits. Abundant resistant quartz veins form promontories due to selective weathering. Quartz was formerly exploited for glass production and as aggregate.
