Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Vienna Basin, Neogene. Smalll abandoned quarries where algal bioclastic limestone of Badenian age was exploited. This limestone is partly sandy,its blocks are embedded in micaceous sand with marine foraminiferal fauna. The limestone was used as decorative building material in the Lednice-Valtice area (UNESCO heritage).
