Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Moldanubicum of Šumava Mts. Active pit quarry. Important geological locality, showing rocks of the Varied Series of Moldanubicum. Several types of metamorphites are exposed, such as biotite paragneiss, crystalline limestone, metaquartzite, erlan, graphitic gneiss and amphibolite. These rocks are cut by thin veins of pegmatite with biotite. One of these pegmaitite veins was described as Li-pegmatite. In fissures, rare minerals of alpine paragenesis were found.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif > Moldanubicum > Metamorphic units in Moldanubicum
Stratigraphy: Proterozoic
Subject: economic geology, petrology, structural geology, mining and mining impacts
Geological phenomenon: dyke, deformation fabrics, characteristic rock
Genesis: metamorphic (general metamorphism)
Rock: marble, dolomite, paragneiss, calc-silicate rock

Territorial protection

Level of protection: Registred geological localities suggested to protection in Protected landscape area
Part of LEPA (Large-size especially protected areas): Šumava
Conflicts of interests: open cast mining
