Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
Moravosilesian Palaeozoic. Moravian Karst. The whole area is formed of the Devonian limestones (the Vilémovice Limestone) with numerous superficial and underground karst phenomena. The Sloup-Šošůvka Cave system belongs to the most popular karst caves of the Moravian Karst. These caves represent famous archeological and paleontological localities, also with relics of the Neaderthalian man. Karst valleys are filled with Pleistocene deposits, also cave fill offers interesting section of Early Pleistocene sediments. Isolated limestone columns and pillars expose interesting tectonic structures. Meso- and microrelief structures are abundant.
