Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
The abandoned sandpit with sediments of the Neogene age. It represents a relic of a body of fluvial gravel, sand and clay deposited by braided stream flow. The evaluated original thickness of this body is about 25 m. The gravel and coarse sand layers often show oblique bedding, erosional surfaces are also abundant. In the conglomerates, both rounded and angular pebbles occur. Among them, pebbles of greywackes, rhyolites and Cretaceous quartzose sandstones were found. In heavy mineral association ilmenite prevails, being accompanied by turmalin, secondary oxides, andalusite, sillimanite and kyanite.
