Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
About 800 m long deep gorge 1300 m ENE from Čikvásky village. Interbedded red-brown mudstone and sandstone with layers of coarcse grained sandstone and conglomerate, dark-grey, mostly calcareous and bituminous claystone, in western part of the gorge also thin layers of coal (equivalent of Čikvásky coal-group). The dip of sediments is steep (70 - 80°towards South, locally subvertical) due to E - W tectonic zone. Basaltandesite veins at twoo spots, connected with tectonic zone. Sediments in eastern part of gorge belong to the Rudník Horizon (Vrchlabí Formation, Autunian), in western to the Štěpanice - Čikvásky Horizon (Semily Formation, Stephanian).
