Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
An abandoned, flooded quarry 2 km NW of Jindřichovice. It was opened in 1906 in a body of columnar-jointed nepheline basanite of Tertiary age, and closed in 1995. Pyroclastics with granite xenoliths are also exposed. Host granites of the Karlovy Vary pluton are well exposed, showing signs of alteration due to intrusion-related high pressures and temperatures. Relics of Tertiary kaolin and silcrete are located around the quarry. The quarry is of historical significance (a POW camp from WW I).
