Geology

Short characteristics of the site: An abandoned quarry at Dasnice, showing a lava flow of olivine nephelinite up to 40 m thick, overlying bentonitized tuffs and agglomerates. The lava flow stratigraphically corresponds to the Nové Sedlo Formation at the Oligocene/Miocene boundary, paleomagnetic age ca. 23.5 mil. years. The quarry is now in the process of reclamation.
