Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
Bohemian Massif, Quaternary volcanics. Nature Monument. Uhlířský vrch (the Charcoal-burner Hill) overlooking Bruntál Town. Erosional relic of scoria cone with complicated structure and volcanic bombs. It shows traces of explosional and extrusional episodes. Scoria clasts are 2 - 3 cm large, not welded. Explosions were of Strombolian type. Volcanics are classified as nepheline basalt up to alkali olivine basalt and olivine nephelinite. In a quarry the contact between pyroclastic rocks and underlying Lower Carboniferous greywackes, siltstones and schists (belongiong to the so called Culm facies) is exposed. Radiometric age of volcanics is 1.9 Ma.
