Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
Moravosilesian Upper Carboniferous, Upper Silesian Basin, Quaternary. National Nature Monument. Elevation overlooking Odra and Ostravice rivers. In a river cut there is natural outcrop of a coal seam. Thin coal seams belong to the Petřkovice Beds of the Ostrava Formation. Typical cyclical development, with sandstones and overlying laminated siltstones and clayey shales.This sequence represents a paralic molasse overlying a flysch cyclus of the Carboniferous sequence. On the elevation top, Quaternary loess, loam and fluvioglacial sand with some Miocene deposits can be seen. Numerous traces of mining workings.
