Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
Abandoned, partly reclaimed quarries near Zabrušany in the Tertiary Most Basin. Varicoloured scoriaceous porcellanites mined in these quarries were formed by natural burning of the exhumed Lower Miocene carbonaceous clays. Burning-induced volume changes resulted in their ductile deformation. Newly formed minerals were magnetite, hematite, bytownite, fayalite and sillimanite in glassy groundmass.
