Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
MOldanubicum, metamorphic units, Šumava Mts. Outcrops in deeply cut valley of water flow. Rocks consist of biotite orthogneiss with mica-schist appearance because of retrograde metamorphism along fracture zones. This rock is rich in quartz, tectonically affected zones contain large garnet crystals. Rock bodies are cut by quartz lenses and veins which are gold bearing. Mainly grey quartz variety cntains elevated gold amount. Gold was mined earlier and some mining workings are preserved. Bedrock is covered by congelifluvial Quaternary sediments.
