Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Moldanubicum, magmatic bodies. Geomorphologically extremely interesting Brtnice River valley with rocky slopes, locally as deep as 70 metres. Geologically, this area consists of two geological units: The Jihlava Massif consisting of durbachites and metamorphic mantle of these magmatites. Metamorphites consist of sillimanite-biotite paragneisses with cordierite and interlayers of amphibolites, erlans, graphitic metaquartzites and leucocratic gneisses. Durbachites are penetrated by veins of lamprophyres and pegmatites in places. Valley slopes are locally covered by a thick cover of colluvial deposits. This locality balongs to Natural Reserves.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif > Moldanubicum > Magmatites in Moldanubicum > Magmatic bodies of doubtful regional position;
Bohemian Massif > Moldanubicum > Magmatites in Moldanubicum > Durbachite plutons in Moldanubicum
Stratigraphy: Proterozoic - Paleozoic
Subject: geomorphology, botany, archeology, quaternary geology, zoology
Geological phenomenon: river channel, canyon, characteristic rock
Genesis: aquatic (water activity), metamorphic (caustic metamorphism)
Rock: durbachite, regolith, eluvium, calc-silicate rock, lamprophyre, pegmatite, paragneiss, qurtzite
