Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
Abandoned quarry about 200 m northwest from train stop Bohdašín, opened at the edge of Mračný vrch Ridge. Unique example of Cretaceous transgression over Triassic. Whitish medium-to coarse grained kaolinitic feldspathic sandstones of Triassic Bohdašín Formation are in the lower part of the outcrop. They contain small pebbly admixture. They are unconformably overlied by transgressive deposits of Upper Cretaceous (Korycany Member, Cenomanian). About 20 - 30 cm thick layer of glauconitic conglomerate is at the base, overlying by mostly medium grained massive glauconitic quartzose sandstones with rectangular jointing. Basal plane of Cretaceous is uneven, erosional, sharp. Rare fragments of eroded Triassic sandstones are locally at the base.
