Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
Abandoned large quarry owned by Votrubec Family, 0,5 km SSW of the top of Kozákov hill (NNM Kozákov ID 1457). Sequence of mafic lavas approx. at the boundary of Vrchlabí and Prosečné Formations (Permian, Autunian). Mostly massive, partly amygdaloidic trachybasalt to basaltic trachyandesite with intersertal structure. Amygdales are infilled by agates, chalcedony, amethyst, jasper, analcite, chlorite, carbonates atc. The sequence consists of numerous individual lava flows (seven within the quarry - Fediuk 2002). Gemstones and special minerals from Kozákov and surroundings are well known and were collected for centuries. The best specimens are the proud of many local museal collections and a collection of National museum in Prague.
