Geology
Short characteristics of the site:
Abandoned sand quarry in the wood at the settlement Dánsko, 2,2 km NW of the church in Malé Svatoňovice. Trutnov Formation (Permian, Saxonian), Korycany Member of the Peruc - Korycany Formation (Cretaceous, Cenomanian). Permian conglomerates and sandstones with pebbles of quartz, quartzite, andesitoite, metamorphic rocks etc. are unconformably overlain by Cretaceous quartzose sandstones. Well developed fossil weathering profile, approx. 3 m thick, is at the upper-most part of the Permian sequence, underlying immediately sandstones of Korycany Member. The dip of the strata is anomaly steep (75 - 80 to SW) due to the flexure at the present base of the Cretaceous.
