Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Rocky wall about 40 m long and 17 m high. Trutnov Formation, conglomeratic facies (Permian, Saxonian) and Cretaceous sediments (Peruc - Korycany and Bílá hora Formations). Red-brown conglomerates and breccias of the Trutnov Formation with variable percentage of bazaltandesite clasts are in the right side of the wall. These are unconformably overlain by Cenomanian sandstones and siltstones of the Peruc - Korycany Formation. Cretaceous sediments contain glaukonite admixture and organic fine matter and carbonised plant stems at the base. Basal sediments are overlain by marlstones, partly spongilitic, belonging already to Lower Turonian Bílá hora Formation. The dip of the both Permian and Cenomanian sediments is steep (max. 84° to SW) due to the close vicinity of the main line (overthrust) of the Hronov - Poříčí fault. The dip of the Turonian marlstones is lower (50°).
