Short characteristics of the site:
Several abandoned quarries at Kalek, Chomutov area, exploiting silicite bodies metres to tens of metres thick. Silicites are formed by almost pure quartz, and are hosted by altered orthogneisses. Quartz was used in the iron works at Kalek in the 17th century. An important mining-historical site.
