Geology

Short characteristics of the site: This locality is called "Meandr řeky Smědé-Harta - The Meander of the Smědá River". It embrases a series of outcrops along river valley. They consist of metagranites of the Krkonoše-Jizera Crystalline. The metagranites contain muscovite and biotite and are penetrated by bodies of granite porphyry. This porphyry is resistant and caused bending of the Smědá River. The age of the Krkonoše-Jizera Crystalline rocks is supposed to be both Proterozoic and Palaeozoic.
