Geology
Short characteristics of the site: The active sandpit where Mid-Pleistocene sand and gravel are exploited. The pit wall exposes a sequence of sands and gravels with sand and gravely sand on a base. The Bohemian Massif served as a provenance area of gravel clasts which is evidenced by an occurrence of typical granite, quartz and gneiss. The sand beds display current channel bedding and also frost wedges can be observed. The sand and gravel were deposited by Dyje (Thaya) River and Jenišovka River. The locality belongs to the southern parts of the Carpathian Foredeep.
