Geology

Short characteristics of the site: The active quarry where greywackes are exploited. Rhythmic sedimentation is typical for this sequence. Fine grained and medium grained greywackes alternate with conglomerates, also some clayey interlayers are present. Graded bedding is common, also oblique bedding, current marks and ripples. The conglomerates contain following variable association of clasts: Sandstones, greywackes, quartz, volcanics, granites, gneisses. So, conglomerates are really petromictic. In the middle quarry level the dyke of lamprophyre occurs. Stratigraphically, this locality belongs to the Lower Carboniferous (the Culm) and regionally to the Drahanská vrchovina (the Drahany Upland).
