Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Outcrops in a ravin expose dark grey siliceous shales, radiolarites, limestones and calcitic sandstones of the Ponikev Beds. The shales contain secondary minerals and also sponge spicules. Limestones are of bioclastic character. Limestones and calcitic sandstones are fossil bearing and contain numerous conodonts. It is supposed that siliceous shales and radiolarites were deposited in deeper sea below so called compensation line, but limestones in shallow waters. All the sediments are of the Culm age and regionally belong to the Moravian Karst Area.
