Geology

Short characteristics of the site: The active quarry (sandpit) exposes a section of sediments of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin.The block of Cretaceous sediments represents only erosional relic. On the base fine grained and medium grained sandstones occur with clayey or kaolinitic matrix and glaukonite in places. Also ferricrete is present in some layers. The sandstones belong to the Peruc-Korycany Formation and their fossils evidence their Cenomanian age. Overlying phosphatic and glauconitic sandstones belong already to the Bílá Hora Formation. They are fossil-bearing and of the Lower Turonian age.
