Geology
Short characteristics of the site: Old abandoned quarries where roofing slates were exploited. Three quarries of different ages overlook Střela River close to the Rabštejn nad Střelou Castle. Petrgraphically, these roofing slates can be called chlorite-sericite phyllites with biotite admixture. X-ray analysis discovered quartz, albite, chlorite and muscovite. Phyllites represent metamorphosed Proterozoic shales affected by the Cadomian orogeny.Phyllite disintegrate along foliation planes into thin plates. All quarries are rimmed by numerous dumps. Geologically belong this area into the Teplá Crystalline of Neoproterozoic age.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - crystalline complex and pre-Variscian Palaeozoic - Bohemicum (Central Bohemian region) - Teplá crystalline complex
Stratigraphy: proterozoikum - neoproterozoikum (1000 - 542 Ma)
