Geology
Short characteristics of the site: Still active quarry with two levels in which massive fine grained basalt is exploited. It belongs to the Blovice Formation of Kralupy-Zbraslav Group of the Barrandian Neoproterozoic. Described basalt is often called "spilite". Its lower parts are massive and fresh, uppermost parts already weathered. In some parts typical pillow lava structures occur, sometimes patches which resemble devitrificationm process. Spilites display microoffitic texture and contain albitized feldspars with Mg-Pumpellyite.
In marginal parts of the quarry a contact with Neoproterozoic sediments, schists and metagreywackes, can be observed.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - crystalline complex and pre-Variscian Palaeozoic - Bohemicum (Central Bohemian region) - Barrandien
