Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Small quarry the wall of which exposes bioclastic and biomicritic limestones with clayey shales. In the limestones some chert nodules occur. Limestone lenses in the clayey shales are fossiliferous, numerous trilobites were found there. The limestones contain quartz admixture and various fossils were found in them, such as sponge spicules, foraminifers, pelecypods etc. Stratigraphically the sediments belong to the Upper Cambrian and Lower Devonian.It is supposed that limestone layers were deposited by aktivity of calciturbidites. Regionally they represent the Moravian Karst.
