Geology

Short characteristics of the site: This locality is represented by a pit quarry which is abandoned and flooded. The quarry rocks belong to the Železné hory Pluton of Prevariscan age. In the rock body amphibole-biotite granodiorite up to tonalite prevails. A set of abandoned quarries can be found nearby, in many of them dykes and veins can be found. The rocks show special type of weathering which is called "geotectonics". Sphaeroidal products of weathering are worth of special attention. This area belongs to the National Geopark "Železné horythe Iron Mountains". The educational trail crosses the whole area.
