Geology
Short characteristics of the site: The abandoned shelf quarry exposing the Ordovician quartzites with overlying Cretaceous sediments of marine origin (the Cenomanian). The base of the Cretaceous sediments is formed of blocky conglomerates with only slightly cemented clasts. They represent typical breaking wave environment. Ordovician quartzites (quartzose sandstones) are fractured and contain some veinlets of secretional quartz. The quartzites were formerly exploited and used for aggregate production. The locality belongs to the National Geopark "Železné hory - the Iron Mountains".
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - crystalline complex and pre-Variscian Palaeozoic - Bohemicum (Central Bohemian region) - Chrudim Early Palaeozoic, Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Cretaceous - Czech Cretaceous Basin
