Geology
Short characteristics of the site: The active quarry Vanov exposing strongly metamorphosed sandy sediments, both quartzose sandstones and greywackes. High temperature and pressure conditions changed them to paragneiss and later because of partial melting into migmatites. Also lenses of rocks of different composition, with elevated content of calcium, called erlans, are present. This locality belongs to the Central Massif of the Moldanubicum Zone.
