Geology

Short characteristics of the site: Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. System of water springs in the area of the Hrubá Skála castellated sandstone rocks. These stratal springs are bound to the boudary of claystones and sandstone layers of the Teplice Formation. This spring field feeds water resources of traditional spa area. Position of springs was partly affected by landslides and so these spills occur along a front of landslide bodies. This area is extremely important from the hydrogeological and geomorphological viewpoints. This locality is situated in the Geopark and Protected Landscape Area Český ráj - the Bohemian Paradise.
Regional geologic unit: Bohemian Massif - superficial deposits and post-Variscian magmatites - Cretaceous - Czech Cretaceous Basin
Stratigraphy: mezozoikum - křída - svrchní křída - coniak
Subject: hydrogeology, engineering geology
Geological phenomenon: spring, river source, landslide
Genesis: aquatic (water activity), gravitational
Rock: sandstone, claystone

Territorial conservation
